between Vlaardingen and Maassluis parallel to Nieuwe Waterweg you’ll find a varied natural environmentNature is a true friend to working together, feel at ease and creativity. Straight from De Polderij you walk into the Aalkeet Binnenpolder, key ingredient to creative meetings. An area where people come to relax and make use of leisure activities like the ice-skating rink and official cycling tracks. You will also find forested footpaths for an energizing walk.
Adjacent to this area, directly to Nieuwe Waterweg, you will find the Oeverbos. This a is narrow green strip renowned for its park-like look and feel. A breathtaking view on Nieuwe Waterweg and its imposing shipping route accompanies you while walking or cycling along the Oeverbos trails.
Next to the Oeverbos are the Rietputten. They origin from a formerly dredging depot. It’s a swampy area, so make sure to wear your wellies! Nevertheless it is a wonderful adventure and worth the while. Due to the presence of rare birds this area attracts a lot of birdwatchers. It is easy to imagine yourself living in another world when walking through the rustling reed.
From the Rietputten you will walk straight into the planted Volksbos. This forest arose back in 1992 when 8.000 people planted 17.000 trees as a protest to local government plans to use this area as a landfill. Nowadays this forest houses a variety of birds and butterflies. And if you are lucky, you might spot a fox.
